This is your weekly grant opportunities update from The National Special Districts Association. Special districts are either eligible to apply directly, or able to partner with a qualifying entity to apply for any of the grants listed.

Department of Agriculture

FY 2025 Farmers Market Promotion Program (FMPP)

WHAT DOES IT FUND? The purpose of this program is to support the development, coordination, and expansion of direct producer-to-consumer markets to increase access to and availability of locally and regionally produced agricultural products. 

WHO'S ELIGIBLE? Agricultural businesses and cooperatives; producer networks and associations; community-supported agriculture (CSA) networks and associations; food councils; local governments; nonprofit corporations, public benefit corporations; economic development corporations; regional farmers market authorities; and tribal governments

TOTAL FUNDING AMOUNT? $11 million

FY 2025 Local Food Promotion Program (LFPP)

WHAT DOES IT FUND? This program funds projects that develop, coordinate, and expand local and regional food business enterprises that engage as intermediaries in indirect producer to consumer marketing to help increase access to and availability of locally and regionally produced agricultural products.

WHO'S ELIGIBLE? Agricultural businesses and cooperatives, community supported agriculture (CSA) network or association, economic development corporation, food council, local government, nonprofit corporation, producer network or association, public benefit corporation, regional farmers market authority, and tribal governments

TOTAL FUNDING AMOUNT? $11 million

FY 2025 Regional Food System Partnerships Program (RFSP)

WHAT DOES IT FUND? This program supports partnerships that connect public and private resources to plan and develop local or regional food systems to build and strengthen local or regional food economy viability and resilience.

WHO'S ELIGIBLE? Producers, farmer or rancher cooperatives, producer networks or associations, majority-controlled producer-based business ventures, food councils, community-supported agriculture (CSA) networks or associations, local governments, nonprofits, public benefit corporations, economic development corporations, regional farmers market authorities, and tribal governments. Entities must partner with state agencies or regional authorities, philanthropic corporations, private corporations, institutions of higher education, and commercial, federal, or farm credit system lending institutions.

FY 2025 Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Hiring Program (CHP)

WHAT DOES IT FUND? This program provides funding to law enforcement agencies to hire and/or rehire additional career law enforcement officers in an effort to increase their community policing capacity and crime prevention efforts.

WHO'S ELIGIBLE? Established and operational local, state, territorial, and tribal law enforcement agencies that have primary law enforcement authority

TOTAL FUNDING AMOUNT? $156,668,839

FY 2025 Community Policing Development (CPD) Microgrants Program

WHAT DOES IT FUND? The purpose of this program is to develop the capacity of law enforcement to implement community policing strategies by providing guidance on promising practices through the development and testing of innovative strategies; building knowledge about effective practices and outcomes; and supporting new, creative approaches to preventing crime and promoting safe communities. 

WHO'S ELIGIBLE? Local, state, territorial, and tribal law enforcement agencies

TOTAL FUNDING AMOUNT? $8.8 million

FY 2025 Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Act (LEMHWA) Implementation Projects

WHAT DOES IT FUND? This program improves the delivery of and access to mental health and wellness services for law enforcement officers through the implementation of peer support, training, family resources, suicide prevention, and other promising practices for wellness programs. 

WHO'S ELIGIBLE? Local, state, territorial, and tribal law enforcement agencies

TOTAL FUNDING AMOUNT? $8.85 million

Department of Justice

FY 2025 Safer Outcomes: Enhancing De-Escalation and Crisis Response Training for Law Enforcement - Support for Law Enforcement Agencies

WHAT DOES IT FUND? This program promotes safe outcomes during police encounters with persons in crisis through relevant training. Funds will be provided to law enforcement agencies seeking to implement training and related supports.

WHO'S ELIGIBLE? Local, state, territorial, and tribal law enforcement agencies

TOTAL FUNDING AMOUNT? $14 million

WHEN IS IT DUE? June 24, 2025 (Grants.gov); June 30, 2025 (JustGrants)

Department of Transportation

FY 2025 Low or No Emission Grant Program

WHAT DOES IT FUND? This program provides funding for the purchase or lease of buses that use low- or no-emission propulsion technologies, including related equipment or facilities. Any zero-emission project or components of a zero-emission project must use 5 percent of Federal funds for workforce development, unless the applicant certifies less or no funding is needed for this purpose.

WHO'S ELIGIBLE? Designated recipients of FTA grants, states, local government entities, and federally recognized Indian tribes

TOTAL FUNDING AMOUNT? $1.1 billion

WHEN IS IT DUE? June 30, 2025

Department of Transportation

FY 2025 Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Competitive Program

WHAT DOES IT FUND? The purpose of this program is to enhance safety and renew our transit systems through the deployment of modern buses and associated equipment and facilities.

WHO'S ELIGIBLE? Designated recipients that allocate funds to fixed route bus operators, states, or local governmental authorities that operate fixed-route bus service, and Indian tribes

TOTAL FUNDING AMOUNT? $398 million

WHEN IS IT DUE? July 14, 2025

Department of Veterans Affairs

FY 2026 Staff Sergeant Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program (SPGP)

WHAT DOES IT FUND? This program will reduce veteran suicide by supporting the provision or the coordination of the provision of primarily non-clinical suicide prevention services, including outreach and linkage to the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) and community resources, to eligible individuals and their families.

WHO'S ELIGIBLE? State or local governments; community-based organizations; Indian tribes; incorporated private institutions or foundations; and corporations wholly owned and controlled by incorporated private institutions or foundations

TOTAL FUNDING AMOUNT? $52.5 million

WHEN IS IT DUE? July 18, 2025
